The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the top teams in baseball since 2022, But they haven’t won a World Series during the last 3 Seasons and with the aging core this could be and almost certainly will be the last season the current championship window will be open.
Dave Dombroski who has built himself a hall of fame resume by winning multiple World Series as the General Manager and President of Baseball Operations. He turned the Phillies team around in just 2 Seasons.
He has struggled at trade deadlines since being hired by the Phillies, in 2022 he traded for Brandon Marsh and Noah Syndergaard. Marsh turned into a productive Player for the rest of the 2022 season, but has struggled the past 2 years and Syndergaard didn’t have a huge impact. If the Phillies had traded for 1 more impact player they could have won the World Series
In 2023 Dombroski and the Phillies only made 1 move (Bailey Falter For Rodolfo Castro), which turned out to be a catastrophic mistake for the Phillies as their Bats and bullpen went cold and they looked like they needed just 1 more reliever and one more hitter to ultimately win the World Series.
And finally in 2024 the Phils made 4 moves, trading for Tanner Banks, Carlos Estevez, Austin Hays, Seth Johnson, and Moises Chace. Estevez and Banks were the only players who made an impact, and the impact wasn’t even as great as the Phillies needed it to be. As the Phillies Lost in 4 to their division rival, the New York Mets.
The 2025 trade deadline is on July 31st at 6PM EST. So here are 5 potential trade candidates that could help the Phillies win their first World Series since 2008.
1 Felix Bautista, RHP, Baltimore Orioles
Bautista is a Right handed, hard throwing Pitcher who won Reliever of the Year in 2023 and has been dominant since his debut in 2022. He missed 2024 while recovering from a Torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL). He made his return to Pitching in 2025 and has had some good and bad games. He is still a dominant pitcher, but his main concern is his walk rate. His walk rate is in the 1st Percentile (17%) according to stat-cast, which is nearly double the average walk rate of 8.9%. A major upside to Bautista is that he is under team control for multiple years which may be intriguing for the Phillies.
2. Aroldis Chapman, LHP, Boston Red Sox
The 37 Year old left handed pitcher, who still consistently hits 100MPH on his fastball, is on a 1 year deal and would be considerably cheaper than many other Relievers. Chapman was reliever of the year in 2019 and has come back to that form in 2025, pitching to a 1.50 ERA in 33 Games. Chapman has always been known for being a little wild, but he has fixed some of his command and control issues he has had and looks the best he has in years.
3. Taylor Ward, OF, Los Angeles Angels
The slugging 31 year old outfielder would fit perfectly into the lineup for the Phillies, He is a right handed power hitter, the type of player the Phillies have been looking for since Rhys Hoskins tore his ACL in Spring of 2023. Ward is hitting .211 with 18 homeruns and 47 Runs batted in. Taylor is on the Final year of his contract and would be a cheap option for the Phillies.
4. Lourdes Gurriel Jr, OF, AZ Diamondbacks
Gurriel Jr. is hitting to the tune of 10 Homeruns, 38 RBI, and a .251 AVG. the 31 year old veteran has had a great season and has produced good numbers over the last few years. Lourdes would be under contract through the 2027 season with a player option in 26’ and a club option in 27’. It may be intriguing for Philly to trade for Gurriel because he most likely will be on the team for multiple years and could take the role of Nick Castellanos or Max Kepler once they leave Philly.
5. Dane Myers, OF, Miami Marlins
Myers is a 29 year old primarily center fielder who has elite defense and speed. Myers is hitting an absurd .333 with 4 Homeruns, 18 RBI, and a.862 OPS. He may not be the power hitter the Phillies need but he adds value in hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running. Myers is an all around talented young ball player who would be cheap to trade for because well, the Marlins Stink
With this being the last season of the Phillies championship window, Dombroski is going to have to go all in and to whatever it takes to get the Phillies their 3rd World Series title.
